AusCycling

“It’s been fantastic working together … I think it was one of the first times we’ve ever had universally positive feedback.“

Why Badges And Medals?
Kind to the planet
When a lot of your sport takes place in nature, sustainability can’t be a side thought, said Kipp Kaufmann, executive general manager of sport at AusCycling.
That’s what led the organisation to rethink their award supplier.
“Cycling is, obviously, really in the environment,” Kaufmann said, especially disciplines like road cycling, mountain biking, and BMX (bicycle motocross) racing. The environment is therefore “really important to those communities”.
And with heaps of awards being handed out at each of the organisation’s events, it was something AusCycling couldn’t ignore. Now, thanks to Badges And Medals, each of AusCycling’s awards are made of wood that has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as being sustainably harvested.

‘Elevated’ designs
But sustainability wasn’t the only factor. AusCycling also wanted awards that excited their athletes, while also representing what the sport was really about.
“There was a lack of excitement in the community about them,” Kaufmann said, referring to AusCycling’s old awards. “We were doing a lot of recycling [of old awards], and trying really hard to find something that had a great design.”
By partnering with Badges And Medals, that changed.
“We’ve been able to really elevate this part of the organisation,” he said.
“We’re starting to deliver things that make people excited.”
What do the athletes think?
“‘Great design.’ [We got] that type of feedback immediately. ‘Looks professional, comes in a great box.’ I think it was probably one of the first times we’ve ever had universally positive feedback.”
